Bounce, Be Transformed (PDF)
• Part 1
• Part 2

We are born with Bounce, the ability to grow and change, to continually become better, and to always be in transformation. Life is complex and so are we and we come equipped with the ability to change and be transformed. Change is natural, and unlike any other being on earth, we can change what we feel, what we believe, and what we do, by changing our mind; otherwise, we would still be living in a nice little cave.

The human brain is highly adaptable and the newest regions of the brain allow us to compile, sort, and reconfigure what we know. We can change our minds about ourselves and the people around us. We can rethink our past and through our thinking, change our future. We can change our minds, our lives and the world by learning Bounce.

Bounce is a way of living that gives us the foundation to create a life based on joy and meaning requiring only thought, intentionality and discipline, qualities we already posses. We use these abilities without even thinking about them. We all have Bounce; we use it after everyday hassles and inconveniences, and we can Bounce and rebound after devastating events. Or, at least that is what we are supposed to do, but sometimes with the pace and complexity of life we forget, letting little things become too big.

Life is full of surprises, and our need for a re-bound Bounce is inevitable. Choosing a life based on Bounce readies us for those times when powerful forces of nature slam us against the wall. When we start with balance, we can harness the forces of energy that accelerate our descent and use these energies to soar to new heights, heights we have never before experienced.

The speed of our lives moves at a faster clip than anytime in human history. We are bombarded with communication from people down the street and around the world. Cell phones and e-mail connect us to one another like never before. Airplanes transport us from one side of the country to the other in a matter of hours. And, while the internet broadens our world and our thinking, it also overwhelms our circuits and floods our brains with useful and not so useful information, and all too often we get ahead of our capacity to cope and maintain our own equilibrium.

I recently celebrated my 60th birthday and invited 100 friends. My mother later remarked, “I don’t think I even know a 100 people.” I thought back, it is true. In my mother and grandmother’s day, they had large extended families, a few neighbors and that was it. My mother still has lunch with friends she grew up with over 80 years ago, while I know only a few people who live in the same town where they grew up. Our desire to change and to become more and be better is deeply embedded in our being, and is as powerful as our need to eat or sleep.

Bounce, be transformed. Change your mind, change your life, change the world is a guide for giving your life joy and meaning. Bounce.
